UPPERCRUST BAKERY: A community staple changes ownership. New goodies!
A few months ago, the original owner of Uppercrust Bakery, Jackie Dufty, retired and passed the torch on to Ben Guzick. Ben is enthusiastic and excited to not only maintain the original integrity and offerings but also to expand the selection to include many new goodies. Several bread staples have been added to the daily catalog, including sourdough and rye. Hamburger and hot dog buns debuted on July 4th and may be available for special order. These are not to be missed. Absolutely soft and plush with a slightly sweet brioche-like taste, these are the best quality you can get in town. I'll be special ordering for sure and hope to see them eventually offered as part of the regular line up. I have it on good authority that they will be available a bit more frequently for game days, when the season starts back up. Most of the hamburger and hot dog buns offered at even specialty grocery stores have random oils and additional ingredients I'm not interested in consuming. Or, they may have an acceptable ingredient list but the texture is stale, flaky, dry or hard. Bavarian style pretzels and pretzel bites, new sandwiches and other new savory treats ... more
