Surprising Sunday: Sport Stacking

Did you know there is such a thing as Sport Stacking?  The World Sport Stacking Association is dedicated to promoting the sport.   What is Sport Stacking? Sport Stacking is an individual and team sport that involves stacking 9 or 12 specially designed cups in pre-determined sequences as fast as you can. 
I first ran across this Wednesday morning when I turned on the TV to watch the local news.  Apparently, the last channel I had on was ESPN and The World Sport Championship was being telecast on that channel when I turned it on.  I got engrossed in it.
At first I was a bit befuddled as to why kids would spend their time doing this but the more I watched and learned, the benefits of the sport became more clear.   If you watch, you will realize this takes tremendous focus and hand-to-eye coordination.  It develops both sides of the brain in a child and can be very beneficial in many ways throughout the child's life. 
Speed stacking started in Oceanside, California in 1981 and as of 2015 had 618,394 registered members.   I don't have the most current numbers.
