Very Thankful for Simple Childhood Memories

It is so much fun and interesting reading the posts for Debbie Reynolds' November Thanksgiving Challenge. The other day as I read some of the member’s posts about their families and growing up, I thought about my own childhood.
 
My childhood could not have been more simple partly because I was born in a simpler time. We had only 3 television channels, a landline phone, family around for Sundays and holidays, and played outside all day on Saturdays and in the evenings until it got dark.
 
Sunday dinners and holiday meals meant at least 25 people. Everything was homemade, including my grandmother’s apple, lemon, and chocolate pies. My mother always made our birthday cakes and they were never from a box...3 layers, two chocolate and one vanilla with homemade chocolate icing.

My toys were simple as were most toys back then. I had a Tiny Tears, Tinker Toys (loved them), and a Betsy Wetsy. But my very favorite activity was riding my bicycle/horse. I tied a rope to my bike/horse and loved to pull up to the old hitchin’ post (workhorse) just like Roy and Dale (as in Evans) did.
