Once Upon a Time...
     Once upon a time...we were asked to list a house that had been home to a family with a dozen children.   All of them had now grown up...Mom and Dad and the youngest child who had some challenges were the only ones rambling around in this large house.  
    The acre of yard had seen picnics, softball and volleyball games..the basketball hoop on the garage had offered great entertainment.  
      One of the things I remember most about the house was the large dining area adjacent to the kitchen that had a table that sat 14 people.. Mom had decorated cakes...it began as a hobby and word of her talents spread as wedding cakes had their place of honor with children and  later grandchildren's weddings. It was "her income" for the little extras that took on a much larger dimension with twelve children. I remember her saying that it was "always someone's birthday" and she enjoyed adding to the festivities with her cake decorating talents.
   Dad's health was failing and his first concern was that his wife of over half a century would live in a place she could manage with their their daughter.  A ranch condo with ... more
