The indicators of livability ranged from housing costs to home ownership rates to the quality of schools to population and income growth, to commuting time, and more.

Indian Trail is situated about 15 miles southeast of Charlotte in Union County. The town's name, "Indian Trail," is derived from the Native American path that wound through this area from Petersburg, Virginia, to the Waxhaw Indians, and gold mining.  The Indian Trail was founded in 1861 and its first roots are as a farming community.
