Get to know more about the “Edge City” of Brookfield WI!The City of Brookfield, Wisconsin, is in the heart of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area. It is 10 miles west of Downtown Milwaukee along Interstate 94, within the third largest county in Wisconsin.
The city has a total area of 27.59 square miles, of which 27.09 square miles is land and 0.50 square miles is water.
With a population of 39,800, the City of Brookfield boasts the fourth highest equalized property valuation. Brookfield also boasts a bond rating of AAA – the highest rating from Moody’s Investors Service.
The area around Brookfield WI was home to the Sac and Potawatomi tribes, but was first ruled by the French. The area came under English control in 1763, after the the French and Indian War.
After the American Revolution, England ceded its claim to the territory to the United States. Brookfield then became part of the Northwest Territory.
Over the years, as new states entered the Union, southeastern Wisconsin was attached to various territories. In 1836, the Brookfield area became part of Milwaukee County in the Territory of Wisconsin.
