Noteworthy News, History From May 14
What do Smallpox, the U.S. Constitution and a 5-year-old mother have in common? All share an important newsworthy anniversary today, May 14, 2014.
If you’ve read my www.ActiveRain.com/Results blog, you know one of the pastimes I enjoy is learning new facts and interesting pieces of history. Today’s collection came from Wikipedia.  
Though interesting, these fascinating facts have nothing to do with the real estate business of helping families buy and sell Silicon Valley, Calif. homes in San Jose, Palo Alto and Cupertino. I just find learning new facts fun.
What news items were noteworthy on May 14?  
         1607 – Jamestown, Virginia is settled as an English colony.          1787 – In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, delegates convene a Constitutional Convention to write a new Constitution for the United States; George Washington presides.          1796 – Edward Jenner administers the first smallpox vaccination.          1804 – The Lewis and Clark Expedition departs from Camp Dubois and begins its historic journey by traveling up the Missouri River.          1889 – The children's charity, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children is launched in London.          1897 – The Stars and Stripes Forever is first performed in public near Willow Grove Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.          1939 – Lina Medina becomes the youngest confirmed mother in medical history at the age of five.          1973 – Skylab, the United States' first space station, is launched.
