A Day.......
It is overcast and eerie where I am today. The sky is dark and there is rain in the air. Unusual and foreboding is the feeling. I am thinking about the Landing Beaches in France now where I had this same feeling. There was a big difference though, the beaches in Normandy were and are foreboding for real. Seeing them some years ago gave me chills. You see them in old videos and today everywhere but the reality of this was overwhelming. I could never have imagined the depth of those peaks, the large gullies and the terrain. I don't think I could have climbed these in my thirties without a barrage of incoming fire. How anyone survived is a question I couldn't and can not answer.
Young men in harms way. Seeing things with my own eyes has always been important to me and changes the way in which I relate to the world. To those who survived and to those who did not I am eternally grateful.
