Soundtrack of a Lifetime – 2019 Edition – Day 17 - Bobby Vee
Yesterday we stepped back to the 1960s. As long as we are back there, let’s hang around and take a listen to one more of Carole King’s early songs that became a hit for a different popular performer.
Bobby Vee was another of those good looking, teenage heart throbs that rose to stardom in the early 60s. He put together a string of hits like Run To Him and The Night Has a Thousand Eyes. But his biggest hit was a Carole King song Take Good Care of My Baby. The song reached number one on the Billboard pop chart in 1961.
Bobby Vee’s career started with an unusual twist of fate. On February 3, 1959 a light plane carrying Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, The Big Bopper and 20 year old pilot Roger Peterson crashed on its way to a show in Moorehead, Minnesota. Rather than cancel the entire show the promoters hired local talent to fill in along with the remaining artists. One of the locals chosen was a 15 year old boy that knew all the songs. That young man was Bobby Vee. Vee went on stardom.
