Wordless Wednesday - Church & Lavender
I love the beauty that old Churches display. While old and sometimes tattered they still carry the same messages of hope, love and peace. Recently, I was shown this photo of a beautiful old Church surrounded by the brilliance of lavender. It reminded me of how lavender is referenced throughout the Bible only its bible bearing name is spikenard, which is actually Greek for lavender.
Spikenard was used as one of the eleven herbs for the incense of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Many Christians today still create a cross out of lavender and hang it over their homes door for protection. This is a old fashioned method of home protection used for centuries.
Lavender symbolizes purity, silence, grace, calmness and serenity. Even its purple color comes with significance - meaning royalty and speaks of elegance and luxury.

Lavender is widely used today for calming, skin inflammation, spiritual practices and even on burns. From lemonade recipes, to diffusers, as vase fillers or just beautiful purple backdrops in flower gardens.
This photo is the perfect example of the calm that both Church and lavender brings, with a message of hope and healing that many in the world need to see and hear.
