Saturday Smiles: New Finds at Santa Barbara Farmers Market

Blue Shackamaxon beans are an ancient Lenni Lenape pole bean.  We were gifted a start for this wonderful bean and will add it to our “forever” garden lineup.  These beans are prolific, beautiful and tasty too!  The green pods quickly fill with beans then turn a purple/blue color as they bulge with beans.
We found these beautiful beans at Roots Organic stand, and they are a new (heirloom) offering.  Also they can tomatoes from their harvest aptly named, "Summer In a Bottle".
These sea beans pictured above are: Salicornia is a genus of succulent, halophyte flowering plants in the family Amaranthaceae that grow in salt marshes, on beaches, and among mangroves. Salicornia species are native to North America, Europe, South Africa, and South Asia. Wikipedia
I was told that you can toss them in the water when steaming shellfish and they salt the water perfectly and scent it with the taste of the sea.
Pictured above are another heirloom variety of eggplant.  We loved their shape and color.
These colorful sweet peppers begged to have their photo taken... And I obliged!
Last but not least are these beautiful bundles of arugula.  They are very tasty with a hint of spiciness.

Wishing you all an abundance of Saturday Smiles ... more
