Take a walk in the woods! You're invited to attend a Forest Therapy workshop on Saturday, August 17th at Columbia Springs. It's one of our favorite sites in Clark County with a visitors center, fish hatchery, and 100 acres of the great outdoors to explore.
The workshop will feature a series of slow, mindful activities designed to engage your senses. Smell the western red cedar, listen to the wind, visualize the leaves crunching under your feet. The tools you learn can be used again and again on your own walks.
The organizers promise a relaxing experience and say you'll feel the healing benefits of spending time walking earthen trails. It sounds to us like the Japanese practice of  Forest Bathing, or Shinrin-yoku.
Forest bathing was developed in Japan in the 1980's and has become a cornerstone of preventative health care and healing. Shinrin-yoku is not exercise, it is the mindful practice of taking in the forest through our senses.
If you're interested in this event, you can register here.  The $30.00 fee is non-refundable, but you can switch the day to another class if you can't make it. There are workshops scheduled each month for the remainder of the year.
