Edward Egan
Edward Egan was born in Queens, New York back in 1930, he was orphaned at 12 raised by his grandmother. In 1947, he joined the United States Marine Corps. After his discharge, he played baseball for the New York Yankees Triple-A club, however in 1950 he was recalled to active duty for the Korean War. After his second discharge, he joined the New York City Police Department in 1955.
His career spanned some 15 years with over 8,000 arrests. He retired in 1971 and worked as a full-time actor playing mainly law enforcement roles in more than 20 movies and television series. In 1984, he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He died of colon cancer at the University of Miami Cancer Center in 1995.
What you may not know about Edward is that along with his partner Sonny Grosso they broke up an organized crime ring in 1961, seizing 112 pounds of heroin, a record amount at that time. His exploits were made into a movie some of you may remember The French Connection, it was also written about with the same title in a book by Robin Moore.
