My Dad Served......
My father was a member of the greatest generation. During World War 2 he served in Okinawa. He never really spoke about it until as a young teen I pressed. I wanted to know what he did in service. He told me he was a farmer: grew things. I believed him and told others, until someone elses parents laughed and told me that wasn't real. I was crushed and naive.
When I asked again I learned my Father was a typist. Apparently shortly after he arrived a commander asked if anyone there could type and my Dad raised his hand. And so among other things, my Father was a typist. Good skills picked up can help anywhere.
