Hawaii Vacation Rental Laws
The Big Island of Hawaii has been in the process of cracking down on illegal vacation rentals and has recently taken steps to make vacation rentals be registerd with the County of Hawaii.  This is something that the County of Oahu is currently doing and the County of Maui has already done.  
Within the application process you have to provide the floor plan, validation that you have tax licenses to pay state taxes, validation that you have paid your real property taxes, and along complete a notorized compliance form that you will ensure that your guests comply with quiet hours, etc.
Illegal vacation rentals has beeing a big problem in Hawaii.  Some owners are negligently not following the laws and some owners are just clueless as to what the laws actually are.  
The State of Hawaii has recently been working with AirBnB and VRBO and are finding out that tens of millions of dollars of tax revenue is being lost annualy.  Here is a post we did on that recently.
I was just curious if anyone else around the United States were seeing similar problems in their areas and what their states were doing to addess the issue.
