Decorate or not?
This time of year everyone is busy climbing in and out of storage areas, looking for all the seasonal decorations that end up scattered all over the inside of their homes, as well as outside, with lights wrapped around trees and bushes in the yard, and wreaths on every door and window. Looks nice, right? Well, what if you are getting ready to list your home during this holiday season? Do you decorate or not?
Well, I have two schools of thought. The first is that pictures of the home should not give a viewer an indication of when the home hit the market. We really don't want a potential buyer in June looking at snow covered yards and Holiday decorations. This screams, "Hey, buy my house please! It's been on the market too long and I am desperate!!"
On the other hand, I tell sellers that the house is still their home, and they still get to live in it while it is for sale. So I encourage them not to sterilize it too much by removing everything they love from the house.
