Palos Verdes Schools Awarded California Distinguished School Recognition

Two of Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District’s elementary schools just won recognition by the California Distinguished Schools Program.  Rancho Vista Elementary and Silver Spur Elementary were among several of the South Bay and Long Beach elementary schools awarded in this statewide program.
The California Department of Education (DS) Program recognizes schools that demonstrate exemplary achievements.  The California DS Program recognizes elementary, middle and high schools in alternate years and allows eligible schools to apply for the California DS Award once every two years.  Additionally, each year two of California’s DS Awardees are eligible to become a National ESEA Distinguished Schools Awardee.  In 2020 California is recognizing outstanding education programs and practices in elementary schools using a multiple measure accountability system to identify eligible schools based on their performance and progress on the state indicators. In 2020 eligible schools in the elementary school cycle were selected within two categories: Category 1: Closing the Achievement Gap & Category 2: Exceptional Student Performance.
Rancho Vista Elementary and Silver Spur Elementary Schools were both awarded for closing the achievement gap and for achieving exceptional student performance.  These two awardees represent examples of not just excellent teaching, learning and collaboration, but highly successful school climate efforts.  This ... more
