Big Bear Valley Nesting Bald Eagles & Their Eggs
How exciting! On January 8th, at about 5:30 at night, Jackie, the bald Eagle laid her first egg. Generally, a second egg will be laid about 3 days later, so we wait in exciting anticipation for this to happen. Jackie, is the female of the Big Bear nesting pair of bald eagles. Now, incubation will actually start after the second egg has been laid. In total this period will be about 35 days and both Jackie and her mate Shadow will be diligent in keeping the eggs warm and protected. Over the last two nesting seasons, video has shown that Jackie does most of the nesting and she has never allowed Shadow to nest over night or during big storms. Her momma instincts have surely kicked in and she knows exactly what to do and how to protect your babies! Shadow will, however provide Jackie with lots of meals and breaks!
