Your Optimal Dose of Nature - Two Hours a Week

 
Nature is good for us. By now, most of us recognize the link between better physical and mental health and time spent in nature. You'll find plenty of research about the topic. But, exactly how much time do we need to spend in natural surroundings to reap the full benefits?  
 
New research finds we need to be in it for around two hours a week. The study, led by the University of Exeter, and published in Scientific Reports, found that people who spend at least 120 minutes in nature are significantly more likely to report good health and higher psychological well-being than those who don't visit nature at all during an average week. 
 
Unfortunately, spending less than two hours a week nets the same results as spending zero time in nature. Apparently, the two hour threshold was consistent across all sample groups too, regardless of age, gender, living location, social class, longterm illness, or disability. "You don't have to be running around a park, sitting on a bench will do," says researcher Mathew White.
