Just a day trip away from Stanislaus County - Calaveras Big Trees
 
So today is a wet and windy day here in Stanislaus County.  Of course this is a very good thing for the Central Valley and the near by Sierra Nevada Mountains. The rain is great for helping to fill up our resevoirs and replenish our ground water, both of which will be needed come summer time. But soon it will be spring and time for some more day trips "up the hill."  Here's one of my favorites...
Today's trip is east of Stanislaus County in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Calaveras County. Today's trip is to the Calaveras Big Trees State Park. This is one of the many parks in the California State Park System.  
I have been here several times and have always enjoyed it.  Calaveras Big Trees State Park consists of two groves of giant Sequoia Redwoods.  If you are in the mood to see some very old and very huge trees this is the place to be.  Some of the biggest trees are very big, 250-300 feet tall and 25-30 feet in diameter.  These trees are really really old, 2000-3000 years old.
