1916 USA Censorship-To avoid more dramatic government censorship, the National Board of Censorship, comprised of film fans representing movie studios, was established to serve as an industry watchdog. One of its first policies was to forbid nudity in films.  
1793 France French Revolution-Louis XVI of France is executed by guillotine after he was tried by the National Convention, and found guilty of high treason. The French Revolution (Révolution Française) ran from 1789 to 1799. It resulted in the abolition of the French monarchy, replacing it with a democratic republic.
2009 USA Barack Obama's Double Oath-Following a minor mistake during the first oath-taking on January 20, 2009, President Barack Obama was sworn in as President of the United States for the second time in two days. The reason? One word was given out of order during the original ceremony. The Second Oath was performed behind closed doors in the White House Map Room.  
2012 St. Maarten Global Circumnavigation-Sixteen year old Laura Dekker became the youngest solo sailor to complete a voyage around the world. Dekker began her journey on January 20, 2011 and completed the trip 366 days later ... more
