Winter in Carlsbad is Tough to Take
 
 
We have our own version of winter here in Carlsbad in Southern California, and it's tough to take...note the sarcasm!
 
The Bird of Paradise are blooming all over, along with other flowers that keep the hummingbirds happy, and the grass and vegetation are pretty green given the rain we had in November and December (after months of no rain and the drought).The produce at the farmers' markets has been wonderful!
 
It's been cold at night - hitting the low 40s and even the high 30s - but warming into the 50s or even the low 60s during the day. And we can see snow on the distant mountains. It was nice to not have to turn on the heat til late November!
 
Those of you in the colder areas of the US are no doubt snickering when we complain about the cold here in SoCal. Or perhaps you really are jealous!! I do know what winter is like, after spending 22 years in New England and 2 years in Minnesota, but while I still miss Boston I can't say I miss the snow and cold.
