It's Over! (Until Next Time)
The votes are in on the Impeachment Trial of President Trump. (without burying the lead... he is acquitted on both counts)
The first Article of Impeachment (abuse of power) the vote was 48 Senators voted Guilty and 52 Senators voted Not Guilty.  This represents a straight party-line vote with the exception of Senator Romney of Utah, a Republican who crossed party lines to vote with the Democrats. 
The second Article of Impeachment (obstruction of Congress) the vote was 47 Senators voted Guilty and 53 Senators voted Not Guilty.  This represents a straight party-line vote.
The high bar of 67 votes needed on each Article of Impeachment to remove the President from office was not reached on either Article and, in fact, the majority of the Senate voted against each Article of Impeachment as brought by the House of Representatives.  
This concludes the current attempt to remove the President.  But I doubt that we have heard the rest of the story.  The House leadership has already said that they intend to continue to investigate the President.  The President has proven himself to be a resilient and difficult target - and the House will be better prepared on the process questions next time.  I would recommend that ... more
