Why I’m Loving Cypress, Texas… While I tell people who aren’t familiar with the area that I’m back in Houston, I’m actually living in Cypress, TX, which is an unincorporated community in northwest Harris County. Cypress is about 24 miles northwest of the city of Houston proper, but it’s really just a hop, skip and a jump thanks to 3 loops that encircle the city of Houston. When I left Houston in the late 80s, Cypress was just a small suburb of Houston. We would pass through or by it on our way to College Station. Cypress now ranks 50th in the top 100 highest-income urban areas in the United States. The Cy-Fair School District is the largest recognized school district in the state of Texas with 75 out of 78 campuses receiving an 'Exemplary' or 'Recognized' rating by the Texas Education Agency in 2010” What I love is that we can still enjoy all of the amenities that Houston has to offer...from a distance. We don’t have to get caught up in the traffic. And thanks to The 610 Loop, which was the original Loop that encircled the city, the Sam Houston Tollway, and the Grand Parkway, residents can easily get to the airport, downtown, The ... more
