Who IS The Expert Anyway?
If ever we've lived in confusing times, perhaps this is a new peak. So much information available, but the accuracy of the information? Quote "reputable" sources may be spewing complete lunacy intentionally or unintentionally.
A claimed title provides credibility doesn't it? Any nurse or doctor that calls into a talk show about COVID-19 is going to have more information than Joe Everyman, right?
But that's not necessarily true. Sometimes you need a true expert.
For instance, I've been a degreed engineer since 1985. My degree was a specialized form of mechanical engineering, focused on shipboard propulsion plants. Fact is, my degree is no longer even offered at Annapolis. I've spent almost 30 years in my civilian job as a manufacturing engineer and more recently as a quality engineer in the medical device sector. I'm well qualified for what I do.
But just because I'm an engineer, it doesn't make me qualified to answer ALL engineering questions. Ask me something about electrical engineering and I'm going to have to reach WAY back to my Wires and Cables classes. Chemical engineering? My last touch in that was Chem III in high school (yes, I was one of the geeks and nerds).
