Sossina M. Halle
Sossina M. Halle was born in Ethiopia back in 1966.  The family fled to the United States during the Ethiopia coup in the mid-70’s.  They settled in Minnesota where she attended Saint John’s Preparatory School graduating in 1983.  She continued her education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology receiving her B.S. and PhD in 1992. She also received her M.S. from the University of California, Berkeley.
After graduation, she was an assistant professor at the University of Washington, Seattle.  In 1996, she joined the Caltech faculty remaining there for 18 years before moving to Northwestern University in 2015 where she is currently a professor of Materials Science and Engineering.
What you may not know about Sossina is that she is best known for developing the first solid acid fuel cells.
