Pending Home Sales April 2020
On May 28, 2020, National Association of Realtors® (NAR) reported that nationwide pending contract signed home sales dropped 21.8% to an index of 69.0 in April of 2020 from an index of 88.2 in March of 2020, and fell 33.8% from April of 2019.
Pending home sales index in the Northeast declined 48.2% to an index of 52.6 in April of 2020 from March of 2020, and down 52.6% from April of 2019.
Pending home sales index in the Midwest decreased 15.9% to an index of 72.0 in April of 2020 from March of 2020, and lower 26.0% from April of 2019.
Pending home sales index in the South dropped 15.4% to an index of 87.6 in April of 2020 from March of 2020, and lost 29.6% from April of 2019.
Pending home sales index in the West fell 20.0% to an index of 57.1 in April of 2020 from March of 2020, and declined 37.2% from April of 2019, according to NAR on May 28, 2020.
Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist, stated “In the coming months, buying activity will rise as states reopen and more consumers feel comfortable about homebuying in the midst of the social distancing measures.”
