A Pandemic July 4th
Late last evening, while being kept awake by the firing of illegal fireworks in my community, I began contemplating how I was going to observe this July 4th holiday.
No family is coming to visit because of the pandemic. There are no parades, no large city fireworks displays for the same reason. Our local park which is usually packed with activities and events for at least a couple days, is going to be silent from all that! In many ways, other than those illegal fireworks outbursts, one wouldn’t know this holiday was here at all.
Late last night while contemplating all this, and what I could do to find some remnant of July 4th celebration in my soul, I contemplated what I would be eating today. It was too late to go grocery shopping. And, I certainly didn’t wish to navigate aisles which I suspected would be crowded today!
While perusing my freezer, I came across 4 lobster tails which were frozen solid together, nearly a single unit. There wasn’t any chance they were going to be comfortably untangled in their frozen state. I hauled them out to thaw for today. I had managed to procure these crustaceans at my local ... more
