Happy National Mutt Day To All The Mutts And Their Parents!

Today is the 15th anniversary of National Mutt Day in Charlotte, and everywhere else for that matter.  National Mutt Day was created in 2005 by animal welfare advocate, Colleen Paige, to raise awareness of the plight of mixed breed dogs in shelters all over the country and to educate the public about the millions of mixed breed dogs desperately awaiting their "fur-ever" homes.
 
National Mutt Day, is the perfect day to visit your local shelter and adopt a mixed breed dog. My dogs have all been mixed breeds and have all come from our local shelter in Charlotte. Without doubt, they have been the best, smartest, and healthiest dogs we've owned. But I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm biased! When peoplewould ask what our dogs' breeds were, my answer has always been  "a pedigree mutt." I guess you could call me an Official Mutt Lover! 
 
There are great benefits to choosing a Mutt over a purebred dog and one of the most important ones is longevity. Mixed breed dogs tend to live longer and have healthier lives than purebreds.
