Our Zoom call for January 5 was given to us by John DL Arendsen. He was on the call to teach us all about ADU's. That stands for Accessory Dwelling Units. Something that I knew nothing about, but found it very interesting. He's also a very interesting person and began his presentation by playing us a song to help change things up and get everybody in a good mood, which, I must say that he accomplished in spades. John told us all about the process of building an ADU from start to finish or soup to nuts (wherever did this expression come from? I digress). This was not just a presentation, but almost a course that went into some of the detail of getting one of these done. It included whether the ADU was built on site or off site and brought in, setback issues, floor ratios or how big it could be, the style it has to or should be in, water pressure, plumbing, electrical, easements, gas - basically everything that should go into putting one of these on a property. I get winded just thinking about it all! ADU's could especially be good to have if you have a property big enough ... more
