Safety Reminders for Pet Lovers at the Shore!
Did you know more pets are lost on July 4th than any other day?  What do you expect lots of good food and food smells around, marching bands, parades and loud fireworks.  Not fun for our furry companions!
According to officials with the Associated Humane Society in New Jersey, it might be tough to leave part of the family home but that's the safest place for your pet to celebrate independence day.  They are actually happier (though my pup didn't tell me this) at home where it's realtively quiet, cool and safe.
Here are some suggestions to keep your pets safe:
Don't take pets to fireworks displays, the sound can be painful for pups of all ages.
Don't leave your pet unattended outside during fireworks displays, even in a fenced yard.  When frightened they might go under or over just to escape.
We love the beach, but it's not the best place for Fido.  The sand gets hot and uncomfortable.  Salt water is dangerous and constant sunshine makes pets susceptible to heat stroke.  Also most beaches in Ocean County, NJ don't allow dogs at the beach during the summer.
Never leave your pet in the car, even for a few minutes.  As ... more
