This VA is an agent looking for a place to hang her license...
It's a confusing time.  I have an active real estate license in California, but it is no longer held with a broker.  I have had my license since 2002, and since then have been with 3 different brokers. 
The first was one of my first VA clients that I still do work for today, but I really only used my license there to do licensed assistant type of duties for them, and I did a couple of referral deals.  They were an independent brokerage, and I felt like I was lacking the educational opportunities to really get my real estate career off the ground.
The next one was one of the big four nationwide companies, and even though I was there solely to sell real estate and do the training that I so desparately needed, my "mentor" at the company kind of promised to take me under his wing and teach me the trade in exchange for me helping him with his admin. stuff - basically I became an unpaid assistant for him, and didn't learn anything except how not to treat a real estate assistant.
