Fort Rucker is located in the Southeast portion of Alabama commonly referred to as the “Wiregrass”, named for a wild grass that is found in the region. In 1973, the US Army Aviation flight training was consolidated and Fort Rucker became the headquarters for the Army Aviation Training Center.  FT Rucker is known in the US Army community as the “Home of the Army Aviation”.  FT Rucker’s Aviation training covers initial entry rotary-wing courses to advanced courses in aviation safety.
 
Fort Rucker is located in southeast Alabama and covers about 63,100 acres. FT Rucker mostly lies in Dale County, but other areas that are government-owned and lease acreage includes Coffee County, Geneva County and Houston County. Wooded landed, rolling countryside. several lakes and streams make up the Wiregrass area. About 90 miles from the Gulf of Mexico makes the Wiregrass a desirable retirement community.
 
 



Centrally located between the cities of Enterprise, Daleville and Ozark Alabama, FT Rucker is easy to access.  About  twenty (20) miles southwest of FT Rucker is Dothan, home of the National Peanut festival. Visit Montgomery, the Alabama state capital is about 80 miles north of Fort Rucker. ... more
