Another Growing Season Comes to an End as the First Frost Hits Western Montana
Fall is a beautiful time in Western Montana but it's always hard to say goodbye to the long Montana summer days and the beautiful weather. And for those of us who garden, it's time to harvest all of our vegetables.
Now I'm far from an expert gardener but I still ended up with enough tomatoes and zucchini to feed a small army.
The growing season was challenging in Montana this year due to the large amount of rain we received in the Spring and the delay in warm temperatures.
We were fortunate this fall however that we've had a nice long period of mild temperatures and a late frost.
We finally had to pick the last of the tomatoes - green ones and all because the first frost hit our part of the state this week.
The first frost is also a good thing though, for our Plums. We have 2 plum trees that produce the most amazingly sweet fruit, but they are only fully ripe after the first frost hits. We have just started picking plums and will be busy making our family's favorite - Plum Pie!
