YOU DON'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!
When remodeling or buying a new home under construction in Austin there is a new rule requiring projects to have certain phases of the project to be inspected by an independent 3rd party inspector.  Many home owners and buyers get upset with all the rules and regulations the City of Austin imposes but when it's all said and done they are instilled to benefit the consumer.
Steve Medina, a professional inspector (see his website: http://www.savvyinspections.com ) tells of a recent drywall phase inspection he did for a customer.  The customer was not happy about having to pay for another inspection by a 3rd party inspector on top of a previous inspection performed by the City of Austin.  He complained the project was already behind schedule and Austin was too strict!!  He complained "why so much red tape"??
When first entering the room the customer was remodeling he noticed immediately obvious code violations and lack of good workmanship.  Nails were used instead of screws in the drywall and the thickness of the drywall was incorrect.  There is a reason to use drywall screws.  I'm sure you have seen "nail pops" in many homes.  If nails are used they pop out in time, ... more
