The United States of America has certainly a lot over the past 40 years! Tomorrow will be a continuation of that change - congratulations and enjoy!
I was a child living just outside of Detroit when Martin Luther King was assasinated and the lived through the Detroit riots - that terrible, scary summer when the sky over the city was filled with smoke everday and the riot squads and the national guard would race by on their way to the innercity. I can't imagine what terror a child of my age would have felt living in the innercity at that time. "Black Day in July" by Gordon Lightfoot is still one of my favourite songs, because of it's deep personal meaning and the memories it invokes.
I never would have thought that, in my lifetime, that I would see a person of Black heritage, become the President. I read Obama's book, "The Audacity of Hope" before he became the frontrunner for the Democratic Party and thought, "Why can't they elect a true leader, someone with vision such as this, to be President?'
