Graffiti and our souls
We have noticed an increase of graffiti here in Cedar City.  Not that there is a lot, but when you go from almost none any graffiti seems like a lot.  I will be honest, although some of the taggers are extremely talented artists, I still just don't understand why they do it.  It isn't their property, so why deface it?  I feel much the same way about vandalism in general.  More often than not, the person that owns the property that is defaced or destroyed isn't even someone that the tagger or vandal is after.
What did the side of the building or window ever do to them?  More importantly, why should the property owner have to spend the money to clean up someone else's mess?  I know that to many people, this really isn't anything bad.  Those same people would yell and throw a fit if someone took something worth several hundred dollars from them.  They would want the thief punished and restitution for the value of the stolen items.  They don't seem to get that the owners of properties that have been tagged or vandalized often pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year to clean up the ... more
