Yesterday I participated in a webinar hosted by the Unconventional Business Network. Rick Boxx, founder and CEO shared three critical factors in leading in a crisis.
Those three factors are people, finances, and communication. These unprecedented times call for business leaders to choose people over profits. In regard to finances, Rick, a former banker, had two key takeaways –first, discover the underlying problems. Take a hard look at your business, he said. And then “seek out creative and collective solutions” Invite your employees into the solution. This requires maturity and a willingness to be vulnerable. Another preseason activity is to run preliminary profit and loss reports. If you use accounting software such as QuickBooks and have kept your check register up to date throughout the year, this will be an easy report to produce. If, however, your receipts are in a shoebox then take time now before the end of the year to organize your receipts and other necessary documents.
