santa fe: Santa Fe Horses Rule My Road... - 09/16/10 10:31 AM
I love landscape and horses and every now and then when I take the drive on I-25 as I did today something new will catch my eye and I will stop along the highway. This time it was a herd of Native American horses roaming on the Santa Domingo Pueblo land. It appears they were as curious of me as I was of them. Their leader stopped and took a look back. I was blessed for a few moments, as we all compared horsepower. Next time you are on your way to Santa Fe on I-25 at 75mph, consider taking a break … (7 comments)

santa fe: Find Your Feet and Let Your Imagination Rule - 09/04/10 04:32 PM
By Saturday my real estate brain usually has quit functioning. Why? Isn't the market supposed to be dead? Isn't it true all buyers have disappeared given the lack of financing and the end of the first time home buyers credit? Or isn't it true sellers are no longer realistic? My experience is just the opposite thanks to finding my feet and letting my imagination rule.
For example, this past week for me was like running a real estate marathon. It began with three new listings, opening one home for inspection, another for an appraisal, another for three for agent present showings.  In between, I wrote a column … (4 comments)

santa fe: Words To Remember - 09/02/10 01:07 AM
Every morning I begin my day by browsing through one of the many books at my bedside looking for some words to remember throughout the day. This morning, I discovered these by Anne Dillard -
"Spend the afternoon. Remember you can't take it with you."
Then one of my four on the floors agreed with a loud "I am hungry" meow and before finding coffee or everyone's breakfast, I thought it was time to find an image to go with the words. Here is how one of them spends his afternoons in Santa Fe, New Mexico. How do you spend yours?

santa fe: Santa Fe SKY For Real! - 09/01/10 04:40 PM

The endless sky over Santa Fe is truly a natural wonder. This image passed before me in a nanosecond following an afternoon rain storm. The light here is close to Carribean light. The mountains bring something different and make up for the oceans no longer in our landscape. As the sun begins to set, the palette changes again and again. It is a blessing to live here and see this incredible ever changing beauty.

santa fe: Seeing Real Estate Advertising Differently - 07/11/10 03:40 PM

For some time, I have been wondering what would happen or could happen if real estate advertising changed from endless pictures of homes in a rectangular boxes to something excitedly bold and different.
I created this image this evening to find out. In my wildest imagination, people will come to Santa Fe, New Mexico to see if this home actually is in the clouds. There would be an increase in tourism and our local destination economy could generate more jobs and more real estate sales. Or, an online buyer surfing real estate sites in the middle of the night would decide to relocate … (21 comments)

santa fe: Imagine 37,000 Flags In Santa Fe - 05/31/10 07:52 AM

Imagine 37,000 flags quietly greeting the sunrise over Santa Fe this morning. Perhaps you can take a walk with me for a moment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. I went there this morning to quietly listen, meditate and pay my respects to those buried there since 1870.
The cemetery was just beginning to come to life as cars with beaming headlights filled with people entered this place on the northside of Santa Fe not far from our Historic Plaza. I walked alone thanking the graves of everyone I passed for their service and my freedoms. I watched children bring flowers … (5 comments)

santa fe: Lilacs Are Out In Santa Fe! - 05/18/10 03:30 PM

Did you hear? The Lilacs are blooming in Santa Fe. You can find them nearly everywhere calling out for you to stop everything for a moment and just enjoy their beauty. These white ones caught my eye in between the the next phone call or text or email or tweet. Frankly, I can not remember. I saw them glow in the afternoon light and knew my imagination came first. Hope the next time your imagination calls, you will answer.

santa fe: Santa Fe, New Mexico - Where Pets Rule! - 03/29/10 03:30 PM

There are moments when Santa Fe expresses itself beyond being the City Different. These outtakes from our traditional Pet Parade is one of the events. In fact, everyone seems to mark their calendars and start talking about Fiesta months ahead and as soon as the snow begins to melt.
Perhaps because the weather accelerated from 33 to 66 today, I began to think about walking the pup on the Plaza. Then I remembered... Desfile de los Ninos and our amazing Pet Parade. You see, Santa Feans love their Historic Plaza and given the opportunity parades will quickly become a tradition. The celebration … (10 comments)

santa fe: The Santa Fe 400th! - 09/05/09 09:48 AM
Today is the start of the Santa Fe 400th and the official beginning of Santa Fe, New Mexico's 400th year! The celebration begins with VIVA Santa Fe this weekend and the party continues for the next 16 months commemorating the lives, stories and diverse cultures that make Santa Fe the oldest capital city in the country. I am certain Don Pedro de Peralta would be amazed and proud at how the "villa" he began in 1610 looks 400 years later. More on what happened to Santa Fe real estate during the past 400 years. Now it is time to party!

santa fe: Remembering Inauguration Day - 04/12/09 09:10 AM
Today, I received an email from yet another Realtor who told me 2008 was horrible. I wrote back to encourage them to act out-of-the-box as the landscape of real estate had changed along with the downturn in the economy and the housing market. Then I began to wonder about how we can help each other adapt to the changes in our industry? I remembered how excited I felt on Inauguration Day when everything seemed to stop and people were microblogging on Twitter and Facebook nearly nonstop about their emotions, dreams and hopes.
Now it is the middle of April and perhaps … (5 comments)
