Thank you firefighters for your valiant efforts in Colorado. Because of you thousands of families are able to celebrate the 4th of July in their own homes. My heart goes out to all of the families across the state who lost their homes to the extensive fires. Please do not ignore the fireworks ban as the whole state is extremely dry and a single spark can ignite another horrendous fire. Celebrate your family and friends and be safe.

Today is a day we honor all of the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces protecting the rights and freedoms we all enjoy and often take for granted. We need to honor those daily who continue to sacrifice both abroad and here at home. I recently became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution tracing my father's side of the family back to a patriot, William Steen of South Carolina.
