lakewood: November in Denver, CO is living up to it's reputation - 11/01/11 12:38 PM
November in Denver, CO is living up to it's reputation - that is - November is the 2nd snowist month of the year, with March being the first.  The Denver Post had an article in today's paper indicating we should prepare for a snowy November.  And of course, today is November 1st and we have snow in the forecast.  According to the news, those of us that live in the Denver Metro area should expect 5-9 inches of snow beginning tonight with clearing on Wednesday afternoon.
Happy snow everyone!

lakewood: Pumpkins in Lakewood, Colorado! - 10/22/11 02:17 PM
Pumpkins in Lakewood Colorado!   I know you are having a hard time believing that there are pumpkins growing in Lakewood Colorado and surrounding areas!   But it is true, you can find wonderfully fresh pumpkins for this Halloween season.
As I traveled down Alameda Avenue to Garrison, there is a wonderful pumpkin patch right at the the corner. Proceeds benefit charity and there is a very large selection....from mini pumpkins to large plus some very strange looking species to choose from

lakewood: Festival Italiano Draws Thousands to Lakewood's Belmar Neighborhood - 01/24/11 10:15 AM
One of the highlights of the Belmar neighborhood in Lakewood, Colorado, is the annual Festival Italiano which draws thousands of residents from the entire Denver Metro area. I have been meaning to post these pictures for a long time so when I saw the contest that Active Rain and Kodak was sponsoring, I was inspired to produce a slide show and upload it. I realize that this is not a video....but fun, never the less! … (4 comments)

lakewood: Bear Lake Park Reflects the Colorado Lifestyle - 05/10/10 11:46 AM
Every weekend, my husband and I try to take a hike, weather permitting, that allows us to take in the beauty of Colorado. We are so close to so many parks and trails...easily to forget what a short distance they are...but over Mother's Day weekend we managed to include a 3.5 mile hike along with our dog, Jake.
Bear Creek State Park is just less than 10 miles from our home in Lakewood. Saturday, my hustand, Jim, had taken our dog, Jake, for a good walk up into the foothills. Jim complianed a bit about the crowds, so on Sunday morning, … (0 comments)

lakewood: Don't forget to Vote! - 11/03/09 01:20 AM
It is Tuesday, November 3, 2009 and Voting Day across the country. Here in Lakewood, voters either had to mail their ballots in or they can drop off their ballots at different sites across Jefferson County. In our community, there were only a couple of issues to vote on and several ward elections.  Even if there isn't much on the ballot, we should all do our civic duty and VOTE.  Let's celebrate that we have the opportunity and obligation to participate in the elections!

lakewood: Artwork is fleeting..... - 09/22/09 09:14 AM
I had such a great time on Saturday at the Festival Italiano and was mesmerized by the talented chalk artists creating masterpieces on the sidewalk and street. Due to the amount of time it takes for these artists to complete their work, I returned on Sunday to see how they had progressed. I took so many photos at the Festival, but I found myself being drawn back over and over again to the chalk art.
By the time I left Sunday afternoon, clouds were forming to the west. A light drizzle began early evening and I was so thankful that I had … (3 comments)

lakewood: Don't miss the Festival Italiano at Belmar today and tomorrow - 09/19/09 11:08 AM
I just got home from spending over 5 hours at the 6th Annual Festival Italiano at Belmar in Lakewood, CO. If you are anywhere in the metro-Denver area, this is one event you DO NOT want to miss!  There is something for everyone - from grape stomping for kids to wine lectures and tastings. The streets are lined with a large variety of food including Italian sausage and pepper sandwiches, pizza of all kinds, gelato, sushi, fresh baked breads and pasta.

I especially enjoyed the chef demonstrations including Jon Emanuel, Project Angel Heart, who made hot italian sausage in … (0 comments)

lakewood: First Time Homebuyers Should be Jumping In Right Now! - 09/19/09 03:55 AM
With the extensive media coverage regarding the fast approaching deadline for the $8,000 Tax Credit for first time homebuyers, I am surprised that many people are still sitting on the fence. There are rumors that the credit will be extended and possibly increased, but those are still just rumors.
With the volume of loans being processed and the extended time it now takes to get a transaction closed, buyers who want to take advantage of this incredible opportunity need to be under contract within the next couple of weeks to be assured of closing prior to the deadline.
Sellers should also take notice. … (2 comments)

lakewood: Dog Park combines exercise with socialization...and not just for the dogs! - 09/18/09 12:23 PM
For those of us who live in Lakewood, we are very fortunate to have a wonderful dog park for our furry friends. With a gorgeous backdrop of the foothills west of W470, this park is located next to the upscale Solterra development just off the Alameda Parkway.
When we first started taking our dog, Jake (border collie/sheepdog mix) to the park, he was a little timid and intimidated by some of the larger dogs. Today, he grabs his leash to let us know that it is time for him to visit his buddies at the park. Size means nothing anymore and … (2 comments)

lakewood: Festival Italiano to highlight this upcoming weekend! - 09/15/09 11:11 AM
I am so lucky to live so close to Belmar...a wonderful development featuring retail, multi-family homes, theatres, bowling alley, restaurants and incredible neighborhood events. This coming weekend will be the 6th Annual festival Italiano with unbelievable food, wine-tasting, vendors and entertainment. I especially enjoy the kidsl tent put on by Ballistrari Vineyards, where kids stomp the grapes for a special annual vintage!!!!
I especially have enjoyed the incredible sidewalk chart artworks by some very talented local artists. Here is an example:

The Festival is held at Belmar located at Wadsworth and Alameda in Lakewood. Festivities will be held both Saturday and … (0 comments)

lakewood: Jefferson Cty Assoc. of Realtors Inaugural - 09/10/09 09:11 AM
I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the 2009 JCAR Inaugural Event held last night at Solterra in Lakewood, CO. What a beautriful site for a terrific event. At least 100 people attended the installation of new officers and board as well as the special awards to outstanding service by members of the Jefferson County Association of Realtors.
The evening was perfect with late day sunlight that highlighted the foothills and hogbacks to the west. Lovely background music was provided by Bill Hastings on his keyboard. The theme was Survive to Thrive and each guest received a colorful bandana to represent their … (2 comments)

lakewood: Belmar Farmers' Market - 07/12/09 01:23 PM

One of my favorite activities during the summer months is to visit farmers' markets and savor the incredible smells and take home wonderfully fresh produce to enjoy during the week. Here in Lakewood, we have an incredible market at Belmar featuring not only fresh produce, but delightlul booths featuring homemade soaps, wines, savory sauces, fresh baked breads, blooming plants and wide-eyed puppies looking for a home. Belmar's market even has cooking demonstrations and live music. Here are a few photos I took at my last visit....I so look forward to Sunday mornings:

lakewood: Lakewood and Denver Metro Area hit hard by storms - 06/07/09 03:13 PM
I spoke yesterday about the number of storms that have hit the Denver/Lakewood area over the past week and today brought the worse.....a tornado struck in Aurora causing extensive damage to the Southlands Mall as well as surrounding neighborhoods.  Just across Smoky Hill Drive in Tallyn's Reach, the twister struck the cul-de-sac that my son just moved out of about 30 days ago.  His former home was spared, but his wonderful neighbors suffered damage to their homes and yards. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
I had been hosting an open house in Northglenn when the dark clouds started rolling in.  Hail … (8 comments)

lakewood: Colorado Storm Clouds - 06/06/09 01:08 PM
Over the past five days, we have experienced a lot of rain and storm activities here in the metro area. The other night, I watched as clouds built in the sky just east of my home. In just a matter of minutes, the clouds grew in size, color, dimension and ferocity. I was able to capture a few shots before the storm moved further east.

lakewood: Sunrise in Lakewood - 02/07/09 02:33 AM
We have been experiencing such beautiful weather here in Colorado. I captured the sunrise a couple of days ago. Tomorrow is supposed to bring a change....so enjoy today!  Get outside, take a walk, or head to the mountains!  I hope we have many more sunrises like this. Please share your photos as well.

lakewood: I thought we adopted pets...not the other way around - 01/26/09 11:44 AM
Meet Gertrude, our resident iguana. This is a picture of a young iguana who adopted us last year.  She is incredibly colorful with her vivid  shades of lime green. She stops by every day by the pool and delivers a "poo" present, which of course, I get to clean up when in residence.  Even though Hurricane Omar hit us straight on, Gertrude survived and continues to grow and flourish in her Caribbean retreat. Unlike the typical pets in Lakewood, CO, Gertrude has full reign of our yard....as an endangered species, we anticipate she will be a part of household for a very long … (20 comments)

lakewood: Power Outage in Lakewood - 01/22/09 01:54 PM
Two nights ago, we experienced a power outage in Lakewood - O'kane Park area - for about an hour. Does anyone know what happened?  We haven't seen or heard anything. Sure glad we had some candles and matches.  The experience reminded me of camping unprepared...scrambling for matches and candles....where are they? .... did we pack any? ....of my, it is really dark!
I just would like to know if someone hit a power box or what?  Thanks, neighbors!
