inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: What’s your ‘WHY’??? - 11/08/08 12:34 AM
I originally wrote this post over a year ago…but I believe it is even more applicable to the lives of real estate professionals today than ever before. As you begin to prepare your business plan for 2009…perhaps you should stop for a moment and consider your ‘WHY’.

WHO...WHAT...WHEN...WHERE...HOW??? Remember learning that in school? Our teachers taught us that every story needs to answer these five questions. But...wait...where's the 'WHY'??? I mean...isn't that what we really want to know?

By nature...by divine design...we humans are curious creatures. Unless we know the 'why', we care little about the 'who', 'what', 'when', … (23 comments)

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: A [VERY] Different Perspective – A [VIRTUAL] Real Estate Tour of Pasaje, Ecuador - 11/06/08 03:21 PM
In 2006, I participated in a mission trip to the banana jungles of Ecuador. Pasaje…located in El Oro Province in the southernmost region…is one of the most economically depressed areas of Ecuador. The purpose of our trip was to build a church/school for a desperately poor community.

You can read my other posts about this mission trip by clicking on the following links:

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: The principle of SOWING and REAPING: MY TRUMP CARD for this troubled real estate market! - 10/26/08 10:41 AM
If you are like most of the real estate professionals I know…2008 has probably been the most difficult year of your career. Top-producing REALTORS® and loan officers…who easily earned six figures a few years ago…are struggling to keep food on their tables. Many are even losing their homes to foreclosure.

In August of this year, I personally felt the biggest impact that I’ve experienced thus far. Like the eerie calm before a violent storm…everything just stopped. There were no phone calls and no showings on my listings. Business wasn’t slow…it was dead!

Being the eternal optimist…I took a deep … (78 comments)

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: What can a little ficus tree teach a real estate professional about perseverance? (WARNING: Don’t read THIS POST if you have ‘IT’ all together.) - 10/15/08 01:17 PM

Back in 1988, I purchased my first home…a tiny (880 sq ft) condo in a wonderful neighborhood. It was absolutely adorable, and it was MINE! At the time, I had very little furniture and no money…but I had a great view.

One of the first things I bought to decorate my new home was a little ficus tree. It was only about 4 feet tall when I purchased it, but it grew quickly in its sunny home beside the doors to the deck. I watered it just the right amount…changed the pot when the roots needed more room to … (29 comments)

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: Are you eating a ‘WRONG STUFF’ sandwich? - 10/09/08 02:57 PM

IF curiosity drove you to click on this post…just to see what in the dickens I’m going on about now…you’re probably not alone. In fact…if I were a bettin’ woman…I’d go with my gut on this one.

However, since I’m feelin’ lucky…I’ll take my little speculation one step further and suggest that some of you have a super-sized ‘WRONG STUFF’ sandwich in your left hand right now…just waiting to take the next bite. And…yet another group of you have been trying to finish up your ‘WRONG STUFF’ leftovers for days…and you’ve got a serious bellyache. Oh yeah…you’ve polished … (25 comments)

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: The BRIGHTEST SUN is just behind the DARKEST CLOUDS... - 10/07/08 06:05 AM
My dear friend, Sharon Young, loves clouds. She loves them so much, in fact, that she helped start a group, CLOUDS AT ACTIVE RAIN (clouds attached), for people to submit their most inspiring photos of clouds. This post is for Sharon Young and Julie Neerings (and for everyone who needs a reminder that the sun will shine again.)

There is a special story behind these photos.
One afternoon, I was talking to my beautiful friend, Julie Neerings. She was in her office, and the sky was filled with clouds. Julie was facing some difficult and very important … (40 comments)

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: Do you make the ‘small’ people in your life feel ‘big’…or do you use the ‘small’ people to make yourself feel ‘big’? - 09/29/08 02:49 PM

(To learn more, you'll just have to go read it for yourselfJ) As I read Marlene's post, a certain ‘feeling' came over me...a feeling that took me back to a day long, long ago...to forty-five minutes that impacted my whole life. I'd like to share my special memory with you now.

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: The Ethic of Reciprocity ( OR ) Do YOU play nice in the sandbox? - 09/18/08 03:42 PM

According to Wikipedia:
The ethic of reciprocity is a fundamental moral value which "refers to the balance in an interactive system such that each party has both rights and duties, and the subordinate norm of complementarity states that one's rights are the other's obligation."
According to Jesus Christ of Nazareth:
The ethic of reciprocity is the good, old fashioned 'Golden Rule' which states "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." I'm sure that most of us are familiar with this rule. If you are not...go look it up.

Now that I've established what the ethic of reciprocity … (84 comments)

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: My Online Legacy…HOPE - 09/16/08 06:56 AM
Imagine for a moment...

Imagine yourself as one of the trillions of stars that light up the Eastern Sky...surrounded by billions and billions of other stars. Imagine...going out ‘on stage' night after night and shining as brightly as you possibly can...only to have your light lost in the blinding glare from the other stars. Imagine wondering if your little light matters to the world at all. Then imagine...one night...you are chosen to provide a guiding light to three wise men seeking a very, special, newborn child.

Forever the world is changed...because of you...BECAUSE YOU ARE.

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: Inspired By Heroes…Remembering Betty Burgess Avery - 09/11/08 06:08 AM

Today...all across our great country...we remember. We remember a day...September 11, 2001...when thousands of ‘ordinary' men and women made the ‘extraordinary' decision to risk their own lives in order to save another. In doing so...they became heroes.

Today I remember...Betty Burgess Avery...my hero.

What is a hero?
Miriam Webster defines ‘hero' like this:
Etymology:
Latin heros, from Greek hērōs
1 a: a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability b: an illustrious warrior c: a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities d: one that shows great courage 2 a: the principal … (28 comments)

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: Elizabeth’s Saturday Evening Post: A Familiar Story about a LITTLE MAN and a BIG FISH - 01/19/08 12:43 PM
Back in December, I wrote a post, Facing YOUR Giants........, in which I told the Biblical story of David and Goliath...in my own words. I pointed out that David's bravery in facing his giant is an example for all of us to follow when we find ourselves face-to-face with our own giants...financial pressures, marriage struggles, health issues or anything that appears to be bigger and stronger than we.
Tonight...I wish to share another familiar, Bible story...Jonah and the Whale...in my own words. Although many of you may have heard this story as a child, Jonah's story teaches a life lesson about … (29 comments)

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: Durham, North Carolina mourns the death of Lista Yarbrough...a fellow REALTOR® and my friend - 01/17/08 09:30 AM
Today, after a five year battle with cancer, Lista Yarbrough went home to be with the Lord.
(July 1, 1973 - January 17, 2008)
As the Vice President of the Durham Regional Association of REALTORS® and a top-producing agent with Realty Executives Triangle, Lista was well-known and well-loved by her peers in the real estate business. Since her diagnosis of cancer in 2003, Lista has fought couragiously...openly sharing her story in order to inspire others to fight also. Her death leaves a void that only her contagious smile and loving heart could ever fill.

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: Childhood Music Memories - 01/13/08 02:28 PM
For as long as I can remember, music has been a vital part of my life. From the moment I learned to talk, my mother began teaching me how to sing. I'm not sure if all the practicing made me into a better singer; however, it certainly left a deep impression on my soul. When my girls were little, I sang the very same songs to them. Even now that they are almost grown, they will ask me to sing ‘You Are My Sunshine' to them when they are not feeling well.
Of ALL the songs she taught me, there are … (29 comments)

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: Man Convicted of Murdering Real Estate Agent, Sarah Anne Walker, Sentenced to Death in Texas - 01/04/08 04:57 AM
Some of you may remember the headlines about the brutal murder of Sarah Anne Walker in July 2006; however, it is more likely that you either do not remember or never saw the reports. I heard about her murder in passing and thought..."How horrible!" Then, in truth, I thought about it no more...until this morning.
Sarah Anne Walker was an attractive, successful, 40 year-old onsite agent for D.R. Horton in McKinney, Texas. On the day of her death, she was doing what she did every other day...her job. She was hosting an open house in a model home of the Hemingway … (53 comments)

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: Though the world may label me a fool…I believe in YOU! - 12/19/07 04:11 PM
Music is incredibly powerful. Just hearing a few notes of certain songs can take me back to a specific moment in time. When I close my eyes...while listening to the song...I can ‘see' the moment...feel the moment...and sometimes even smell the moment.
Last week, I came across a CD that I have not played in years. I slid it into the CD player and waited for the first song to start. Hearing the first note of the song, I was immediately transported out of the present moment and back to a day long ago...a really, really hot day in Atlanta, Georgia. … (19 comments)

inspirational thoughts from bilingual raleigh durham chapel hill nc realtor: Who Cares? YOU DO!!! YOU proved it by GIVING from your HEARTS! (UPDATE: The Melissa Grant Fire Relief Fund) - 12/17/07 07:26 AM

Saturday morning...after learning of the housefire that destroyed a portion of Melissa Grant's home...I wrote a post asking for ActiveRain members to join me in giving Christmas back to Melissa and her family. I shared with you how the fire began in 15 year-old Joshua's room and destroyed ALL of his possessions. I told you about 7 year-old Grace and 6 year-old Cole's fear that Santa would not be able to find them this year. I asked you to place yourself in their shoes...to imagine how you would feel if you could not be in YOUR own home for Christmas...to ask yourself how you … (34 comments)
