The time has come for a handful of new home buyers to get off the fence. The past couple of weeks has been hectic, showing and selling homes to new homebuyers. Our new clients have been patiently waiting for the approach of the Tax Stimulus deadline and decided this was the time to take the plunge. The ones currently under contract have gotten great deals. The ones in the negotiation stages are getting good deals. Sellers are being as cooperative as never before and the future home owners are excited. The new (Taj Mahal) on Macon Road in Columbus Ga, will soon be home to hundreds of Muscogee County School District staffers and educators. The controversial construction is completed and School Board member Phillip Schley has come up with a name. MUSCOGEE COUNTY PUBLIC EDUCATION CENTER sounds pretty good. The name fits and guess what, it is the Muscogee County Public Education Center. If I may suggest to the rest of the Board Members, go with it. Columbus Ga government officials felt it necessary to sue Expedia.com back in 2006. At issue was the amount of taxes collected and the room rate that Expedia paid taxes on. The city and their lawyers felt that expedia should pay city taxes based on the monetary amount that the customers paid. Expedia paid taxes on a lower advertised room rate. Sounds like a no brainer. The courts thought it was a no brainer. Even the Georgia Supreme Court upheld the city's right to collect taxes on the true room rate. Columbus won, Expedia lost. Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson is still worried about the current Real Estate crisis. He doesn't think that the stimulus package is enough and wants to raise the $8000 tax break to $15000. He went on to say that, "the sale of thousands of empty, undeveloped lots in subdivisions around Atlanta and throughout the nation is critical to stabilize the housing market." The Republican Senator from Georgia is sponsoring a bill to benefit ALL HOME BUYERS. Isakson's bill would eliminate the current income limit of $75,000 for an individual and 150,000 for a couple. Al Capone's former hideout / former tourist attraction sold on the court house steps in Hayward Wisconsin. Chippewa Valley Bank was the only bidder, it was also the bank that foreclosed. Capone's retreat in Northern Wisconsin featured 18 inch thick stone walls and guard towers. Nine separate buildings on the property also included a bunk house and a jail. The property sold for 2.6 million dollars.

Money Magazine put out a new list of Top 10 Best Places to Live. Congratulations to Peachtree City Ga for making the top 10. Out of 2466 towns in the US that have a population between 8,500 and 50,000 Peachtree City Ga ranked number 8. It is a cozy little hideaway with lots of greenspace and community amenities. I have ventured into Peachtree City several times and enjoyed the sites within the community. I particularly enjoyed the commercial signage size restrictions.
