When these loans go bad, the banks get their money back while the government takes ownership of the property. These government-owned properties are called HUD Homes - named after the department that handles their liquidation. Twenty five new Houston foreclosures [government] on the auction block this week and this one just jumped out of the MLS sheet. Three bedrooms, Two full baths (+guest bath), 2400 SF in Sugar Land asking a remarkable $46/SF. The investor in me got excited as soon as we finished our conservative market analysis when it became apparent that this deal was a keeper.

The current system by which banks maintain their foreclosure portfolios simply stinks. It is inefficient, anti-democratic and it just doesn't make sense. It rewards speed versus quality of offer and in so doing, causes millions of dollars in additional loses for banks and it strips buyers of a fair chance at acquiring a decent deal. 
Here's what I propose banks should do...
