In many ways, Fort Hunt is quiet and reminiscent of a time past when Virginia was a bit more "southern". Streets lined with mature hardwoods lead to quiet homes and tranquil neighborhoods. The nearby Potomac River is a perfect neighbor and many parks are in the area.
At the same time, Fort Hunt is close to culture, services and employment. The neighborhood is not only close geographically, but the traffic patterns, established long before the rise of Northern Virginia's suburbia, favor the area and are relatively free from traffic and congestion. Situated at the foot of Shooter’s Hill at the point where King Street leaves Old Town Alexandria, The King Street Metro provides 30 metered parking spaces (for short time parking) and bike racks as well as car sharing. At the top of Shooter’s Hill is the George Washington Masonic Memorial where one can look down over King Street to the Potomac. It is only in King Street where one can find an array of shops and restaurants, many of which you would normally find in an elite mall. There are also unique shop stops, boutiques and nightclubs along with fun activities/events.

Just off the George Washington Parkway there is a trail that runs from Old Town Alexandria to Mount Vernon. The trail goes all the way to DC and has several parks along the way. The trail has a detour to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and goes all the way to National Harbor. The trail is in use year round, however people really start to come out in the warmer seasons like Spring and Summer.
