arlington: Intriguing wood at the Representative - 08/24/09 03:08 AM

The Representative condo community is located at 1101 Arlington Ridge Road in Arlington VA. The Representative overlooks Pentagon Row, the Pentagon and Crystal City. It features a unique architectural style that mixes angles and curves to present interesting angles and shadows.

One of the features that I find intriguing at the Representative is this custom wood trim. The trim is a solid wood and features a tooled pattern that is much more difficult to create than the standard milled pattern. In the picture below this trim is used as a base with a solid ogee trim above and … (1 comments)

These spires tower above the Pentagon, Rosslyn and Crystal City. The Memorial was formally dedicated on October 14, 2006. The Memorial remains dedicated to the United States Air Force service members and the Heritage Organizations of the USAF.
The design of the Memorial intends to evoke a modern image of flight by jet and space vehicles, but yet remembers the pioneers of flight who came before. The three spires of the Monument represent … (3 comments)

arlington: Living near the highway in major city? - 07/29/09 11:32 PM

In an area crisscrossed with high volume commuter routes and heavily-trafficked Interstates, it's inevitable that some folks are going to live in close proximity to a highway. It's great to be near the Beltway or Route 66 because this can take a serious bite out of your commute. But the downside is that the highways can generate a lot of noise. In most areas, there are towering concrete walls to dampen sound in the neighborhoods in close proximity to the Beltway, I-66, I-395 and other highways.

In the picture above the wall has been taken down as work … (0 comments)

arlington: Northern Virginia's Theatre and Cinema Options - 07/12/09 02:30 AM
Cinema The Old Town Theatre serves up arty, independent and off-beat cinema, while the AMC Theatre at the Hoffman Center, Kingstowne 16 and Regal at Potomac Yard hosts blockbusters and more mainstream movies.

Theatre Capitol Steps Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them.
In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom ("Don't quit your day job!"), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a … (0 comments)

arlington: Short-changed by short-sales - 05/31/09 11:38 PM
What is a Short Sale? A short-sale occurs when the individual selling the property is selling the property for less than what they owe for the property. This means that after the seller agrees to the price, the lender must also agree to the price. Despite what anyone might try to tell you, that's the only difference between a short-sale and a normal sale.
Unfortunately, there are many selling agents who work with the notion that there is a different set of rules for short-sales. These misguided agents are souring the market for everyone. (More below.)
In Northern Virginia, below a … (1 comments)

The Arlington Historical Museum is owned and operated by the Arlington Historical Society, a group of concerned local citizens that conduct research and to preserve and disseminate knowledge relating to the history, archaeology, material culture, and geographical and socio-economic development of Arlington County, Virginia.
I recently stopped by the Arlington Historical Musuem and took a quick tour of the exhibits therein. The museum is located at 1805 South Arlington Ridge Road. The location is relatively close to the Pentagon City and Crystal City metrorail stations but sits up … (1 comments)

arlington: Finding a home in Northern Virginia: is all about jurisdiction. - 05/09/09 11:43 PM
For many, especially those who are new to the area, the system of jurisdictions that we have in the Commonwealth of Virginia can be confusing. This is especially confusing in Northern Virginia, where Virginia intersects with Washington DC and the State of Maryland.
Fortunately I have a fresh bottle of CONFUSION-B-GON to spray liberally as needed.
Around our nation's capital Let me start with my single-biggest pet peeve among newcomers: the term "DC proper".
I have seen this term used regularly on a site that claims to provide local information. That information is provided by people using anonymous handles. Anonymous handles … (2 comments)

arlington: Find a home near the metro in Northern Virginia - 04/29/09 10:15 PM
I am constantly asked about condos near the metro in Northern Virginia. Whether you're looking for affordable or luxury; high-rise, mid-rise or low-rise; amenities or not; you can find something in Arlington, Alexandria or Fairfax County which will suit your needs.
Starting on Blue Line If you're on the Blue Line one place you should consider is Kingstowne---a planned commmunity at Springfield and Franconia near Alexandria Virginia. Kingstowne has easy access to Fort Belvoir, I-495, I-395 and Franconia-Springfield Metro Stops.

arlington: Why isn't my condo, house or townhouse selling? - 02/22/09 11:02 PM
We all know this is a tough market, but the fact is: homes sell every day. Every day homes go under contract. I continue to sell condos, townhouses and houses as people move to and from Northern Virginia.
A home seller who has a property on the market for several months and hasn’t seen much activity or any offers, has to wonder why isn't my property selling?
The price On average prices in the Northern Virginia area have 10% to 20% from the high-water-mark. In some neighborhoods prices have been hammered with 50% to 30% reductions in price. The truth is … (3 comments)

Condos, townhouses and single family homes are currently available in Northern Virginia at greatly reduced prices. This is a terrific opportunity for those who are prepared to take advantage of it. Here are some home buying notes This could be the best time buying your ideal home. The current real market is adjusting  to the uncertainty in the market place. The market has changed from the go go years to an unusually slow buyer's market. arlington: About Condos - 08/07/08 11:16 PM
The best part about owning a condo is that your condominium sets you on the path to financial freedom. The worst part about buying your first condo is that buying a condo usually costs more monthly cash flow than renting an apartment.
While it often costs more per month to buy than to rent, in most cases, all that extra money comes back to you at the end of the year in the form of tax refunds. Best of all, next year your mortgage will be the same amount and your debt will be reduced. With an apartment your money is … (0 comments)

arlington: Northern Virginia's Transportation Network - 08/03/08 01:30 AM
Northern Virginia's traffic is shaped by its proximity to Washington DC and proximity to several important job centers. The world famous Capitol Beltway (Interstate 495) circles DC like a wheel around a hub. The Beltway links Northern Virginia's suburban communities such as Springfield, Kingstowne, Braddock Road and Vienna to the transportation network. The Beltway generally moves at or above the speed limit most times and most days.
In Virginia, the Beltway travels from the American Legion Bridge upriver to the newly-rebuilt Woodrow Wilson Bridge downriver. At each bridge the Beltway enters Maryland. In Maryland the Beltway loops around DC creating a complete … (2 comments)

arlington: DC's Quadrant system - 08/02/08 01:24 AM
Washington DC is organized in a quadrant system labeled as North East, North West, South East and South West. This is most usually abbreviated NE, NW, SE, & SW. If you are given an address in DC, it generally can be located in one of four places. For example, 1500 A St. could be 1500 H St. NE, SE, SW, or NW. Those four addresses aren't anywhere near each other.
The center of the quadrant system is the US Capitol Building. Because the Capitol is near the center of the original planners vision of the city and because the Civil War … (2 comments)

arlington: Hunting bigfoot by random selection? - 07/31/08 12:45 AM
I met a potential client who told me that she had been looking for two years for a condo.  She called me because she wanted to see a particular property in Belle View.  After establishing that she didn't have an agent, I showed her Belle View I practically had to drag here to see a property I thought she would like based upon her input. That property was Montebello, and she absolutely loved it and was amazed because she wouldn't have had a clue that Montebello existed if it wasn't for me.
A few days later, she wanted me to tag … (0 comments)
