agents life: A Month in the Life of an Agent : Day 11 - 03/12/11 03:26 AM
Feeling better, but still not 100%. I had big plans for today - and only accomplished about half of what I wanted to do. Seems like walking across the room was exhausting!
Showed homes in the Columbia City area of Seattle today. Quite the mix - a home built in 1942, then a 2007 townhome style and finally a new construction zero lot line home. My clients found two options that they love. I have their home on the market. We are having an Open House on Sunday - and finding options for a new home is motivating them to lower the … (3 comments)

agents life: A Month in the Life of an Agent : Day 10 - 03/10/11 04:43 PM
Real estate came to a sreeching halt today - all because of a flu bug.
I attended a continuing education class this morning on selling HUD homes. The last 15 minutes I started to feel really bad. I ended up having my husband come pick me as I did not think that I could drive home. Turned out to be a good call (for me - not so much for him) as halfway home I lost my breakfast in his car.
So the afternoon was spent in bed - and it's going to be early to sleep tonight too!

agents life: A Month in the Life of an Agent : Day 9 - 03/10/11 02:14 AM
AKWAAAARD! That one, drawn out word describes my real estate experience yesterday.
A large church in Seattle contacted me to see a building for sale in Everett. They are looking to open a new location and the building (a Mason's Lodge in the 1930s) looks to be a good fit for them. We met the listing agent and the building's manager for a tour.
The building is beautiful inside. Recent uses have included private reception hall and a nightclub. All was well - then we entered the main meeting area. Over time a large bar had been installed on the right … (3 comments)

agents life: A Month in the Life of an Agent: Day 8 - 03/08/11 03:45 PM
This morning was our office Sales Meeting. We always have fun at our meetings! A local rep from the National Association of Realtors spoke today about what we get out of our dues. Can't say that I am won over to the value of membership - but I do feel better about it than before he spoke.
I had a listing appointment today with a seller who recently canceled their listing with a competing agency. His big concern was communication. He asked how I was a conflict resolution. His thought is that his agent either did not want to give him … (0 comments)

agents life: A Month in the Life of an Agent : Day 7 - 03/07/11 04:26 PM
Real estate is nothing if not interesting!
Today I heard from a buyer that their parents have talked them out of buying a home they loved. So we are back to searching. A agent contacted me to say that their buyer wants to make an offer on a vacant home that I have listed - as long as I can capture the three wild cats that like to sit on the roof of the house. And I took a buyer to tour a condo - only to insert the key in the door and have the entire lock assembly come out!

agents life: A Month in the Life of an Agent : Day 6 - 03/06/11 07:19 PM
It was back to work at full speed today!
I made the rounds to my listings. Taking updated photos, delivering flyers, removing/installing key boxes, etc. While I was delivering flyers to a new listing I got a sign call about the house - so I showed it while I was there!
This afternoon I worked the front desk at my office. For those of you who are not agents this is usually called "Floor Time" - it's a chance to earn clients by answering the phone and assisting people who walk-in. In our office interested agents sign-up for 2 -3 three or … (3 comments)

agents life: A Month in the Life of an Agent : Day 5 - 03/05/11 07:35 PM
This is the first day in a really long time that I did not wear business attire for at least part of the day. That means I did not have any client appointments, nor did I go to the office today!
I spent the entire day at my daughter's volleyball tournament - then we spent the evening together as a family :)
Oh sure - there were emails, texts and phone calls during time outs and between game - but I can't imagine NOT do ANY work for a whole day. My To Do list for tomorrow is giving me some … (3 comments)

agents life: A Month in the Life of an Agent : Day 4 - 03/04/11 03:11 PM
Today was one of those days that makes you feel like you are climbing a never ending mountain.
Two listing appointments. Both clients are underwater and both need to move for work. Giving bad news is no fun.
Still waiting on a response to my buyer's offer on a bank owned condo in Everett. The bank has asked the Listing Agent for a new market analysis. Looks like it could be mid-week before we get a response. I did get a counter offer on the bank owned new construction that my client wrote on in Redmond. It was a little high. Interestingly, … (2 comments)

agents life: A Month in the Life of an Agent: Day 3 - 03/03/11 04:19 PM
Today I've felt like I was running behind from the start!
This morning I attended a continuing education class on issues with title. I arrived about 5 minutes late - but luckily so did others so the class had not started yet. A great instructor presented several interesting case studies and the 3 hour class flew by!
I had an appointment to tour some condos in Monroe with a first time buyer - but she contacted me before our meeting to tell me that she had just been denied her pre-approval. I gave her the name of a mortgage broker that … (6 comments)

agents life: A Month in the Life of an Agent: Day 2 - 03/02/11 11:51 AM
Today started with a meeting with a title rep over coffee. Good conversation and a look at their newly redesigned home books. Personal relationships are the key to making transactions go smoothly so I think this was time well spent!
After the meeting I headed to the office for a one-on-one coaching session with our Branch Manager. He always has excellent advice and provides the tools and resources to assist me in building my business and completing my transactions.
All afternoon was spent in what felt like a never-ending paperwork tunnel. Reports, updates, addendums - they just kept coming! Seems like every … (4 comments)

agents life: A Month in the Life of an Agent : Day 1 - 03/01/11 07:05 PM
I have challenged myself to blog everyday for one month on my life as a real estate agent. I will share the ups, the downs and the in-betweens of what I experience.
My motivation is partially selfish - to get myself in the habit of blogging. But I also hope that by sharing my experineces clients will gain a better understanding of what agents do, and perhaps I will help someone who is considering a career in real estate to decide if it is a good fit for them or not!
My background is in sales and marketing and I have … (6 comments)
