albuquerque: What do you use your garage for?? - 04/14/17 10:51 AM
A good majority of homes have attached garages these days. People use them for everything! Modern garages have evolved to the point that a recent straw poll indicates a mere one quarter of homeowners are able to park a vehicle in their garages. About half say they can squeeze one car in, and the other quarter is somehow able to park multiple vehicles there. Most folks use their garage space to store personal items. Other uses run the gamut, from hobby shops to rehearsal studios to a budding dot-com headquarters.
My rule of thumb has always been, if you want to park one car … (7 comments)

albuquerque: How do you get outta here? - 07/22/15 01:15 AM
I did an inspection recently on a home here in Albuquerque that was built in 1947. Of course, we all know what that means... many renovations and additions over the years. Most of the time it is painfully obvious and easily detectable when that has occurred.
In this particular house, they added on a large front sun room. Windows all around on every outside wall for maximum sunlight. The entrance to the room is through the living room and what used to be the front door. They did put an exterior door in the sun room, but it was not usable. … (14 comments)

albuquerque: Just venting... or not! - 06/29/15 01:28 AM
I did an inspection last week on a beautiful home here in Albuquerque in the foothills, or high desert. It was at the base of Sandia Peak, which is over 10,000 feet in elevation. There is a cable Tram that runs up the side of the mountain to a sweet little restaurant at the top called "High Finance" The name says it all.
This house had a beautiful view, you could see the trams running up the mountain from the back yard... gorgeous. The house was beautiful too, well maintained and hard to find anything that needed attention, except this! There was … (15 comments)

albuquerque: Is it Knob or Nob? - 05/19/15 01:28 AM
I had an inspection last week in a historical section of Albuquerque called Nob Hill. Nob Hill is adjacent to UNM (University of New Mexico). It is a mile long stretch on Central Ave., which is also Route 66. Lots of unique shops (and people), trendy restaurants and chic nightspots. Very cool area and the houses in that area are very old!
This house was 88 years old. It has been remodeled several times over the years. Additions, upgrades... you name it. So I had to spend some quality time with this baby! One of the larger problems with this home was … (17 comments)

albuquerque: Clean-Up Day, Bosque Style! - 02/15/15 01:10 AM
Yesterday we had a cleanup day at the Bosque Trail. The event was a sponsored MiABQ Millenial Project Green Team Event. We had a good turnout considering it was Valentines Day! After a breif meeting to lay out our objectives, we broke into teams to paint over a huge amount of grafitti under the Bridge St. overpass over the Rio Grande River, and to pick up trash on either bank to the left and right of the bridge.
It was amazing how quickly we got it done, just goes to show that teamwork can make any task easier to complete!

albuquerque: You better Belize it! - 02/11/15 12:57 AM
I have just returned from a 10 day trip to Belize. Belize is a beautiful Central American country and an awesome vacation destination point! The official language is English and the money exchange is 2 to 1, 2 dollars Belize = 1 dollar US. Having proclaimed their Independence from the British Government in the 80's the country changed it's name from the British Honduras to Belize. The people are all friendly there, it's easy to communicate and travel anywhere you want to go. The roads leave a little to be desired, and they all have speed bumps on them in every little … (9 comments)

albuquerque: Sandia Peak Tramway - 01/03/15 02:54 AM
There are lots of cool things to do here in Albuquerque. One of my favorites so far is to ride the Tramway to the top of Sandia Peak and have dinner at High Finance, the restaurant at the top of the mountain. The elevation at the top is 10,378 feet!
The Sandia Peak Tramway was built by a Swiss company called Bell Engineering back in 1966. The Tram type is called a "double reversable jigback aerial tramway" Sound confusing? It actually means that as one tram car is ascending, the other is descending. Each car is capable of carrying up to … (11 comments)
