It was another great fishing day off Clearwater for Ronnie today. He managed to catch three redfish, one lady fish, a snook, one mangrove snapper and one sheephead. All during the incoming tide.
This is a great way to spend the day and relax. He fishes while I handle emails and blog. A great way to spend time together! We also had several manatee go past again today. That was a special treat. As we were getting ready to leave, I went to release the sheephead, which was on a line in the water. Today was another perfect example: The day started out with a ladyfish and a trout before we moved to the location that was our pre-set destination. There Ron caught not only a 38 inch snook but several sheephead. Both the snook and sheephead are excellent eating but the snook was too large to keep. Spring in Clearwater Florida means spending time on the water. Public schools in our county are on Spring break this week, so the beaches are full of not only tourists but also locals.
I remember when I was a kid, my parents would pack the car (we lived in South Tampa) and head over to the Gulf Beaches here in Pinellas County to spend the week when school was out for Spring break.

It was indeed a fishy kind of day in Clearwater Florida yesterday! I was enjoying my weekly 'day off' out on the boat and while I was responding to ActiveRain blog comments, Ronnie was busy fishing.
Since I had my iPad along for the trip, I got some great photos of the snook, redfish and sheephead that he caught. He has a special fishing spot near a bridge that the snook like to hang out in and he is back there already this morning but he is solo today. Ronnie has been fishing each and every day except weekends (just too crazy on the weekends) and has been catching snook, redfish and sheephead. Naturally, he has his favorite spots and he brings along dozens of live jumbo shrimp. Many of the fish he catches are either we too large or too small. Snook must be 28 - 33 inches on our coast to be legally kept. Redfish are 18 - 27 inches and sheephead over 12 inches. Still, … (8 comments)
