john chesnut park: Mama Gator Is Back! John Chesnut Park - Palm Harbor Florida - 08/17/15 05:43 AM
Mama Gator is indeed back at John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida. It is nesting season once again and this mama has her eggs already tucked away in the mulch covered nest.
Can you see her? Her snout is behind the fern and you can see her eyes watching! The park service has put up a fence to keep people away but I managed to get this photo between the spaces in the fence.
John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida is one of my favorite places for an early morning walk before starting the day!

john chesnut park: FREE Mulch - John Chesnut Park - Palm Harbor Florida - 08/09/15 05:16 AM
FREE mulch is offered at John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida. It is just one of those perks of living here along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico.
The park rangers make sure there is always plenty of free mulch for the local community and as you can see from the sign, if they are out you only need make a phone call and the area will be replenished!
Just one more reason why I love John Chesnut Park and life in the Greater Palm Harbor Florida area!!!

john chesnut park: John Chesnut Park - Palm Harbor Florida - Always A Great For A Stroll - 08/09/15 03:46 AM
John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida is located on the eastern side of lovely Lake Tarpon and is always a great location for a stroll.
That is exactly what we did this morning. Since there has been so much rain lately, we wanted to get out but did not want to deal with puddles, so we chose a drive to the park to walk the boardwalks.
Since it was already close to 9 am by the time we got there, the deer were already in hiding. You have to be there early, when the park opens, to see the dozen or so … (5 comments)

john chesnut park: Lake Tarpon & John Chesnut Park - Palm Harbor Florida - 01/12/15 04:40 AM
Lake Tarpon and John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida was where we took the boat this morning. We launched the boat at Anderson Park in Tarpon Springs and then crossed the lake to John Chesnut Park.

Years ago, before there were boat ramps at Anderson Park & John Chesnut Park, people used an old (now non-existant) boat ramp that was next to East Lake Road. The natural canal led into Lake Tarpon and today Ronnie wanted to show me that canal.

Since he grew up in Clearwater (I grew up in South Tampa), he remembers using the old … (8 comments)

john chesnut park: Sun Rise Over John Chesnut Park - Palm Harbor Florida - 07/28/14 02:08 AM
Sun rise over  John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida is the best time of day to be in the park during the summer  months. With temperatures in the 90's in the afternoon, I cannot think of a better time to take my walks than the EARLY morning hours.

John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida has miles of boardwalk and shell paths that meander around the lake and through the forest. A beautiful place to start the day!

john chesnut park: Bambi Having Breakfast - John Chesnut Park - Palm Harbor Florida - 07/15/14 06:02 AM
Bambi was having breakfast in John Chesnut Park located on the shores of Lake Tarpon in Palm Harbor Florida and wasn't going to be disturbed by my photographing.

I actually had to tell Bambi 'hey, pick up your head' since my whistling and clicking sounds were ignored. Guess this little one is used to having humans around.

If you get to John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida early enough, you are sure to see Bambi or his mother - or another family member - enjoying their breakfast. Perhaps that is one of my favorite places to take my … (0 comments)

john chesnut park: Mama Gator - Before & After At John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida - 07/10/14 10:34 PM
A few days ago I wrote a blog and posted photos of mama gator in John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida but now have to share the before and after photos with you!

Before the park realized that they had a mama gator - a LARGE mama gator - right next to the boardwalk with a nest of eggs  (covered but you can see the mound) that she was protecting, you could take photos of her easily.

I am guessing that most people do not realize that they CAN jump and are extremely fast for short periods. Perhaps … (8 comments)

john chesnut park: A Little More Of John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida - 07/10/14 10:01 PM
I really love John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida, so here are a few more photos of our early morning walks there.

We walk along the boardwalk, which is easier on your feet than concrete trails or asphalt roads. The boardwalk meanders through the swamp areas and there you can see gators as well as deer.

When you walk the shell pathways, the animals hear you coming and get out of the way, but when you are quiet and stick to the grass, you have a better chance of coming up on something special.

There are so … (3 comments)

john chesnut park: John Chesnut Park - Palm Harbor Florida - Home To Florida Deer - 07/10/14 09:34 PM
John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida is home to Florida deer. It is amazing what you can see when you get out early in the morning. The gates open at 7 am and that is the best time to see Florida deer that live right in the park.

This photo of mama deer was taken as she waited for her little fawn to come back from his wanderings. He had gone over a bridge and could not figure out how to get back to mama. Luckily, we were able to go in the other direction and guide him back … (4 comments)

john chesnut park: John Chesnut Park - Palm Harbor Florida - There ARE Gators in Florida! - 10/14/13 12:35 AM
John Chesnut Park on Lake Tarpon in Palm Harbor Florida does have gators in it, just like most lakes in our state. You might not see them since they can stay under water for several hours if conditions are right, it would be best to be careful.

I love going for long walks in John Chesnut Park since there are so many beautiful Live Oak trees there. No matter how hot it might be, there is always a breeze blowing over Lake Tarpon. That, together with the shade of those majestic Live Oaks, make it seem cooler than it would … (10 comments)

john chesnut park: John Chesnut Park On Lake Tarpon - Palm Harbor Florida - 01/01/13 07:11 AM
John Chesnut Park is located on the eastern shore of Lake Tarpon in beautiful Palm Harbor Florida.

This 255 acre waterfront park was built in cooperation with the US Army Corps of Engineers. Home to three fantastic nature trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, picnic shelters, restroom facilities, a horse shoe pit, fenced in doggie park and a public boat ramp with access to Lake Tarpon, this is one park you don't want to miss!

Our morning walk brought us to this great park yesterday and I even got to see a buck deer with antlers. Unfortunately, I only had my … (7 comments)

john chesnut park: Birthday Bash At John Chesnut Park In Palm Harbor Florida - 11/24/12 10:57 PM
Yesterday there was a birthday bash for my granddaughter at John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida.

With miles of hiking trails and boardwalks, this fantastic park also has picnic shelters, restrooms, playgrounds, a doggie park, observation tower, boat ramp, fishing piers and even a few gators!

john chesnut park: Butterfly Anyone? The Beauty Of Our Planet................ - 06/30/12 10:16 PM
While Sascha and I were doing our 6.1 mile walk through John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida last week, I spotted a beautiful butterfly and we stopped long enough to take a few photos.

Man cannot compete with the beauty of Mother Nature and the Beings that exist on our planet with us. What man creates may be beautiful or unique but what we see around us on a daily basis needs to be protected.

The simple joys in life are the best........a walk in the park or along the seashore, observing the beauty that surrounds us and … (21 comments)

My son, Sascha, and I were out early this morning taking a walk together and we covered 6.1 miles. Along the way I was able to take some fantastic photos of Lake Tarpon and John Chesnut Park.

Convenient to the East Lake Area, John Chesnut Park is 255 acres of natural Florida beauty. The park is located on the eastern shore of Lake Tarpon, which is the largest lake in Pinellas County (5 miles long … (11 comments)

john chesnut park: John Chesnut Park in Palm Harbor Florida Has A Doggie Park - 04/09/12 04:12 AM
John Chesnut Park at 2200 East Lake Road in Palm Harbor Florida also has a great doggie park!

Located on the eastern shores of Lake Tarpon, this beautiful park is 255 acres! It is here that you will find another one of Pinellas County's great doggie parks for your four legged friends to romp with other dogs.

The park offers showers for cooling off and water fountains for your pets. There is NO swimming allowed in the park for humans or pets. Lake Tarpon DOES have alligators, so swimming would NOT be a good idea!
